Patsy Cline \u2013 \u2018Today, Tomorrow and Forever\u2019 (1985)<\/p>\r\n
Patsy Cline had a very short life. She died in a plane crash aged 30 on 5th March, 1963, but between 1955 and 1963 she released three albums, six EPs, and 24 singles, among which there are countless well-known songs.<\/p>\r\n
This compilation has 12 songs, including big hits like \u2018Walkin\u2019 After Midnight\u2019 and \u2018A Poor Man\u2019s Roses\u2019. There are previously unreleased songs or songs that weren\u2019t included on stuid albums, such as \u2018Just Out of Reach\u2019, \u2018I\u2019m Blue Again\u2019 and \u2018Yes, I Understand\u2019. There are five songs from Cline\u2019s debut album, including her first single, \u2018A Church, A Courtroom & Then Good-Bye\u2019.<\/p>\r\n
This record also features the Patsy Cline song that I\u2019m most familiar with: the title track, \u2018Today, Tomorrow and Forever\u2019. I know the song from a 2009 EP by one of my favourite artists, Medway-born musician Pete Molinari. Molinari\u2019s cover is interesting because the backing vocals on his version are provided by the Jordanaires, who sing backing vocals on Cline\u2019s original recording too.<\/p>\r\n
There are a couple of things about this compilation that seem a little strange to me, though. One is that it doesn\u2019t include the first Cline song I ever heard, \u2018Crazy\u2019 \u2013 it was featured in the 2007 Quebecois film \u2018C.R.A.Z.Y.\u2019. The other slightly odd thing is that two record companies released compilations with this title at the same time, but with very different track listings. This blog is about the Hilltop version, rather than the MCA version.<\/p>\r\n
Although she lived a very short life, Patsy Cline was the first female artist to cross over from country to pop, blazing a trail and for others like Loretta Lynn in the 1970s, LeAnn Rimes in the 1990s, Kacey Musgraves in the 2010s, to name but a few. And let\u2019s not forget the biggest female star in the world right now, Taylor Swift.<\/p>\r\n
