many different countries and cultures. Britain has long been a multicultural country; partly as a consequence of the colonialism of the British Empire. Throughout the 20th<\/sup> Century, citizens of British colonies came to Britain to work and find a better life. These immigrants have left their mark on Britain in numerous ways, but one way in particular is through music.<\/span><\/p>\r\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n This compilation album showcases the artists released by 2-Tone Records during the label\u2019s first four years. 2-Tone Records was founded in 1979 in Coventry by Jerry <\/span>\u300crock influence, and was also notable for the prominence of multiracial bands like the Specials, the Beat, the Selecter, and the Bodysnatchers, which was somewhat unusual at the time. The label\u2019s black and white graphics are iconic even now.<\/span><\/p>\r\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n Several of the bands featured on this record, such as Madness and the Beat, only released their debut single on 2-Tone before moving on to success elsewhere. Other bands only had short lifespans anyway, like the Bodysnatchers. The Specials, however, have always been closely associated with 2-Tone.<\/span><\/p>\r\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n There are some big hits on \u2018This Are Two Tone\u2019, the most well-known of them by the Specials: \u2018Gangsters\u2019, \u2018A Message to You, Rudy\u2019, \u2018Too Much Too Young\u2019, and \u2018Ghost Town\u2019 were all top 10 hits in the UK. \u2018Too Much Too Young\u2019 was somewhat controversial on its release as it dealt with teenage pregnancy. \u2018Ghost Town\u2019 was written about poor social conditions and discontent that they band saw while on tour in Britain. \u2018The Selecter\u2019 and \u2018On My Radio\u2019 by the Selecter also reached the top 10.<\/span><\/p>\r\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n 2-Tone artists\u2019 live shows were extremely popular. The 1981 concert film, \u2018Dance Craze\u2019, shows the energy that 2-Tone bands brought to the stage. Many of the artists on \u2018This Are Two Tone\u2019 perform in the film.<\/span><\/p>\r\n \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n Two-Tone only lasted another three years after \u2018This Are Two Tone\u2019 was released. This record is not just a showcase of 2-Tone\u2019s artists.
