The Who （ザ・フー）「LIVE AT LEEDS （ライヴ・アット・リーズ）」（1970年）
1970年2月14日、ザ・フーはリーズ大学のレフェクトリー（食堂）で
ライブ・アルバムを録音するためにライブを行いました。
そしてその３ヶ月後に「LIVE AT LEEDS （ライヴ・アット・リーズ）」をリリースしました。音楽の歴史において「最も優れたライブ・アルバム」のひとつだとよく言われてます。
ザ・フーは1960年代後半に素晴らしいライブをするバンドという評判がありました。
ライブでは自分たちのヒット曲、またリズム・アンド・ブルーズ（R&B）曲もカバーし、
最後は楽器を壊すパフォーマンスをみせていました。
お金の心配は尽きなかったThe Whoですが
1969年にリリースしたアルバム「TOMMY （トミー）」と
そのツアーによって費用面での苦労はなくなったようです。
リーズ大学のレフェクトリーでアルバム「TOMMY （トミー）」の全曲と
他にヒット曲とR&B曲のカバーを演奏しましたが、
「LIVE AT LEEDS （ライヴ・アット・リーズ）」は６曲しかありません。
最初には「ヤング・マン・ブルーズ」のカバーとヒット曲の「恋のピンチ・ヒッター」です。その次の２曲はよく演奏したR&B曲のカバー「サマータイム・ブルーズ」と
「シェイキン・オール・オーヴァー」です。
「サマータイム・ブルーズ」はシングル化されています。
サイド２には２曲だけ、両方とも長いバージョンで収録されています。
15分近くの「マイ・ジェネレーション」はメドレーで他の曲も入っています。
アルバムの最後は「マジック・バス」です。
ザ・フーは2006年6月17日にリーズ大学のレフェクトリーに戻り、
もう一度ライブを行いました。
1970年の「LIVE AT LEEDS （ライヴ・アット・リーズ）」の影響で
多くの人がThe Whoのライブ観戦を希望し
また他のバンドやアーテイストもリーズ大学の
レフェクトリーでのライブ開催を望むようになりました。

The Who – ‘Live at Leeds’
On 14th February, 1970, the Who played a show at the University of Leeds Refectory – the university’s canteen that doubles as a concert venue. The show was recorded and released three months later at ‘Live at Leeds’, which has since been released in various editions and acclaimed as the greatest live album ever.
In the late 1960s, the Who had a reputation for live shows that combined their rock songs with the rhythm and blues songs that inspired them, and often ended with the band smashing up their equipment. As a result, they were in financial trouble, but they were helped by the success of their rock opera ‘Tommy’ and the subsequent tour in 1969.
At the University of Leeds Refectory, the Who played ‘Tommy’ in its entirety, sandwiched between other hits and covers. The 1970 vinyl release of ‘Live at Leeds’, however, only has 6 tracks and three of them are old R&B songs. The album starts with ‘Young Man Blues’, which is followed by one of their famous singles, ‘Substitute’. Tracks 3 and 4 are two more R&B covers that the band played in most of their shows, ‘Summertime Blues’ (which was released as a single) and ‘Shakin’ All Over’. Side 2 features just two tracks, both extended versions: ‘My Generation’ including a medley of other songs, and Magic Bus.
The Who returned to the University of Leeds Refectory on 17th June, 2006 to play another show. The 1970 album helped turn the Refectory into a venue that bands wanted to play and the Who into a band that people wanted to see live.
